- Schedule your orientation day (or days) early. What I discovered with Michigan State was that classes were already filled to capacity by the time I went to orientation. I remember sitting down with my advisor as she scrambled to find me classes to take. I was still able to get the same class, however it was at an inconvenient time (8am lectures get old really fast!).
- Take your entrance exams before the orientation day. I know it may be hard to find the time (or willpower) to do schoolwork during senior year summer, but getting them done means there's one less thing to worry about when you show up on the orientation date.
- Be friendly. While at orientation, we were grouped together by college and later by actual major choice. I really wish I had taken the time to talk to them and get to know them. Knowing people who are pursuing the same major as you can really pay off. It gives you a study partner and if they're a couple classes ahead of you, you can ask for their notes!
- Take time to ask questions. Orientation staff are always friendly, why would the university put unfriendly people on a welcoming committee to incoming freshman? They know you're a little nervous and college is a big step. They're ready for any question you may have and are more than happy to answer it.
I hope this insight helps you as you approach your senior year summer and begin preparing your stuff for college.
Best of luck and thanks for reading!
